Fostering Collaborative Action
The New Jersey Food Democracy Collaborative (NJFDC) is a state food system organizing and advocacy initiative, inspired by the food policy council model.
We’re focused on building resilience and equity in the food system through fostering collaborative action, affecting structural change, and advocating for innovation of public programs.
Food democracy is a process and a goal, a value and a way of engaging in the movement to transform food and farming systems to support healthy communities. It’s about empowering individual and collective agency to change food environments. Its tenets are:
• Collaborating toward food system sustainability through collective action and meaningful participation
• Becoming knowledgeable about food and the food system
• Sharing ideas and information about the food system with others
• Developing efficacy with respect to food and the food system
• Acquiring an orientation toward the community good
